Compact Walk-In Baths

Home › Products › Compact Walk-In Baths

A compact walk-in bath gives you a deep, seated soak in a bathroom too small for a standard bath. Both models in the Access compact range are under a metre long, so a small walk-in bath can go into the ensuite you thought was only big enough for a shower. You step in through a watertight door over a low threshold, sit on the moulded seat and the water fills around you.

What exactly is a compact walk-in bath?

A compact walk-in bath is the shortest type of walk-in bath. You sit upright on an integral seat in deep water and do not lie down, which is how the bath fits into a much smaller floor area. The Access compact range has two models, the Florida at 980mm long and the Vermont at 950mm long. A full-length Access walk-in bath is between 1500mm and 1700mm long.

At 930mm high, a compact bath is far taller than a full-length model, which stands between 555mm and 590mm. That extra height is where the depth of water comes from, so you get a proper soak from a bath that takes up very little room.

The range takes its model names from US states, but every Access bath is designed and made in the UK by Access Walk-in Baths, which has been making accessible baths here for over thirty years.

Who a small walk-in bath suits

A compact walk-in bath is for anyone who wants to keep having a bath but finds climbing over the side of a standard bath difficult or worrying, in a home where the bathroom is short on space. That includes:

  • older bathers who want to stay independent at bath time
  • people living with limited mobility or arthritis
  • anyone recovering from surgery
  • carers helping someone bathe at home
  • homes where the bathroom or ensuite is too short for a midi or full-length bath

The Florida compact walk-in bath with an inward opening door

  • 980mmLength
  • 660mmWidth
  • 930mmHeight
  • 242 LCapacity

The Florida's door opens into the bath rather than out into the room, so it needs no clearance in front of it. That means the Florida can sit close to a basin, a wall or a shower enclosure in an ensuite that would otherwise only take a shower.

You enter from the front, step over the low threshold onto the moulded seat and close the door, which seals against a watertight gasket. A push button lock keeps it closed while you bathe. When you have finished, the bath drains before you open the door, the same as every Access walk-in bath. At 242 litres the Florida holds the most water of the two compact models. It can also be specified with Air Spa for gentle hydrotherapy bubbles.

Vermont compact walk-in bath with side entry door, half the length of a standard bath

The Vermont compact walk-in bath at half the length of a standard bath

  • 950mmLength
  • 660mmWidth
  • 930mmHeight
  • 184 LCapacity

At 950mm, the Vermont is the shortest bath in the Access range and about half the length of a standard bath. Its door is on the side and opens outwards, so you step in from the side rather than over the end, with nothing to manoeuvre around once you are seated.

The door can be hinged on the left or the right to suit the layout of your room. Its external lock is easy to operate. The Vermont has a water saving design and holds 184 litres, the smallest capacity of any Access bath. It needs room to the side for the door to open, which your dealer will check when they measure up.

Compact, midi or full-length: which size of walk-in bath do you need?

The right size depends on how much floor space you have and whether you would rather sit or lie down to bathe.

Full-length1500mm to 1700mmLying down, with a powered seat on selected modelsArizona, Montana, Louisiana, Easy Riser, Indiana

A compact bath is the answer for the smallest rooms. With a little more length to play with, a midi-length walk-in bath gives you more space to move inside while you stay seated. A full-length walk-in bath keeps the traditional lying down position in a footprint that matches a standard bath. For more help deciding, read our guide to choosing a walk-in bath.

Features on every compact walk-in bath

Both compact models are built to the same standard as the rest of the Access range:

  • BioCote antimicrobial protection built into the bath, see BioCote
  • a guaranteed lifetime leak-free door seal
  • a warranty of 10 years on the bath shell and panels
  • low level entry over a small threshold
  • a moulded seat and base finished to resist slipping
  • temperature controls that guard against scalding
  • an emergency access door hinge
  • a fast drain system that empties the water before you open the door

You can add Air Spa, Chromotherapy, a Bluetooth sound system or Bristan taps to either bath. See the accessories page for the full list of options.

Questions about small walk-in baths

What is the smallest walk-in bath Access makes?

The Vermont, at 950mm long, 660mm wide and 930mm high. The Florida is only slightly longer at 980mm.

Will a compact walk-in bath fit in my ensuite?

In most cases, yes. The Florida needs no space in front of the bath because its door opens inwards. The Vermont needs room at the side for its door to open outwards. Your nearest Access dealer can measure your bathroom during a free home survey and confirm which model fits.

Do I stay in the bath while it fills and drains?

Yes. With any walk-in bath, the door has to stay closed while the water fills around you and while it drains away afterwards. The Vermont holds 184 litres, the smallest capacity in the Access range. The fast drain system empties the bath before you open the door.

Can I add a spa to a compact walk-in bath?

Yes. Both the Florida and the Vermont can be specified with Air Spa for gentle hydrotherapy bubbles, Chromotherapy lighting and a Bluetooth sound system.

Why are the baths named after US states?

The names are the model names for the Access range. Every Access bath is designed and made in the UK and sold through a network of approved Access dealers across the UK.

Thank you to the Access team for supplying a Texas bath. For the larger bather, this bath is excellent!

Purchased a Georgia bath due to the space restrictions within my existing bathroom. Have to say I was surprised how well it fitted in and still overs a relaxing bathing experience.

After plenty of research, Derek and I decided to purchase an Access bath because of the highlighted safety features which we couldn’t find elsewhere. Due to Derek’s condition, we needed a suitable bath to be able to accommodate his requirements and Access have provided that. I thoroughly recommend their products.

My husband and I wanted to continue having baths but without the hassle of feeling like we were going to fall every time we got out of our traditional bath! We went for the Louisiana model with shower and have to say I am extremely happy! With side door access, we can simply open the door and walk in with no stress. Thank you Access!

With age catching up on me, I took the bold decision to replace my traditional bath with an Access Walk-In bath due to my restricted mobility. I have to say I am thoroughly pleased I made this decision as I can enjoy a long soak without having to worry about getting into and out of the bath.
